Mumbai’s New Underground Metro Line 2A to Worli Now Live Latest News

Mumbai’s New Metro Line 2A (Aqua Line Phase 2A) from BKC to Worli is LIVE– Faster, Easier, Underground

Mumbai just got a lot more connected! With the launch of the Mumbai Metro Line 2A (Aqua Line Phase 2A) which runs underground from BKC to Worli, travelling between the city’s key business and cultural hubs is now faster and smoother.

Launched on May 10, 2025 by CM Devendra Fadnavis and Dy. CM Eknath Shinde, this new 9.77 km Mumbai underground metro stretch adds six new stations to the network: Dharavi, Sheetla Devi, Dadar West, Siddhivinayak, Worli, and Acharya Atre Chowk. This is part of the larger Aqua Line (also called Metro Line 3).

Launch and Inauguration

The Aqua Line Phase 2A was inaugurated on Friday, May 10, 2025 by CM Fadnavis and Dy. CM Shinde. Following the ceremony, Fadnavis took an inaugural ride between BKC and Siddhivinayak stations. Starting May 11, the line opened to the public.

Media reports are calling this metro line an “engineering marvel” because it tunnels under the Mithi River and passes through Mumbai’s crowded areas.

The stretch connects major areas like BKC, Dadar, Prabhadevi, Worli, and Dharavi, making travel easy for thousands of daily commuters.

Ticket prices are quite pocket-friendly – ranging from ₹10 to ₹60 depending on the distance. Metro stations are equipped with modern ticket machines, smart cards, and even UPI payment options to make travel seamless.

Travel Efficiency and Service Levels

Thanks to the new line, the BKC–Worli metro commute is now super fast. People can cover BKC to Worli in about 15–20 minutes by metro – roughly the same time it takes to walk at a brisk pace! After the Aqua Line Phase 2A opened, MMRC data shows trains run every 6 minutes 20 seconds during peak hours. Services operate daily from 6:30 am to 10:30 pm (8:30am-10:30 pm on Sundays). In total there are 244 trips per day using eight trains. This means a train runs roughly every 6–7 minutes, giving commuters a very frequent and reliable option. With fast travel, frequent trains, and low fares, Phase 2A is a game-changer for commuters across Worli, BKC, and nearby areas.

Ridership and Usage

From Day 1 the new Aqua Line extension saw strong demand. As per reports, on the weekend over 65,000 riders used the Phase 2A segment.

According to reports:

  • Over 65,000 people used Phase 2A over the opening weekend

    • Saturday: 32,791 riders

    • Sunday: 32,725 riders

  • Over 16,000 passengers travelled just between BKC and Worli

Officials say this great response shows the line is useful for both office-goers and leisure travellers. Since then, daily ridership is steadily increasing. Many people didn’t know about the new line at first, but word is spreading quickly. As more commuters discover it, footfall is expected to grow further, which will help reduce pressure on buses and roads.

Connectivity Boost & Traffic Relief with the Aqua Line Phase 2A

The new BKC–Worli Metro link connects key business hubs and cultural spots, offering a smooth underground route from BKC to Worli, passing through Lower Parel and Prabhadevi. Now, commuters can easily reach:

  • Siddhivinayak Temple

  • Sheetla Devi Temple

  • Mahim Dargah

  • Cultural spots like Shivaji Park and Ravindra Natya Mandir

A great new addition:
Phoenix Palladium Mall now offers free shuttle buses from Acharya Atre Chowk (Worli Naka) to the mall. These run daily from 11 am to 11 pm, letting metro riders hop off and take a free ride straight to the mall entrance.

Importantly, the Metro is expected to remove 4.5–5 lakh vehicles from Mumbai’s roads. This helps decongest major traffic-heavy roads.

Aqua line metro Impact on Real Estate

The launch of Metro Phase 2A is already creating a buzz in the real estate market.

  • Experts predict that property values along the new metro corridor could rise by 10–15% in the coming years.

  • Better connectivity usually leads to higher demand — and this new underground line is no different.

Analysts say this will increase the appeal of neighborhoods in South Central Mumbai, leading to higher property prices and rentals.

Even redevelopment projects may benefit. Improved access and metro-linked convenience are likely to make big projects — like the Dharavi redevelopment — more attractive to developers and homebuyers alike.

Here’s a simple and clear version of the future expansion update with all key points included:

What’s next?

Once done, the entire 33.5 km Colaba–Bandra–SEEPZ corridor will be India’s longest single-line underground metro. It will connect Aarey in the north to Cuffe Parade in the south.

  • End-to-end travel will take less than an hour, a huge improvement from current road trips that often take more than 2 hours.

  • PM Modi is expected to inaugurate this final section, making Mumbai’s metro system truly world-class.

Soon, passengers will be able to travel from the Goregaon suburbs to South Mumbai’s business district and back in the same evening, all underground and seamless.

Conclusion

The Aqua Line Phase 2A is more than just a new metro stretch — it’s a glimpse into the future of commuting in Mumbai. With faster travel, improved access to key areas, and reduced road congestion, this development is already making a noticeable impact on daily life. As the full line nears completion, the city is moving closer to a seamless, reliable, and modern public transport system. For Mumbaikars, this means not just better connectivity, but a better quality of life.
